A simple inn
on a quiet island
Wander back in time. Be charmed by the simplicity of yesteryear when too much screen time was not a concern and the best “connections” were made on a porch.
The Wandering Dog Inn is Canada’s most Southern Inn located on Canada’s most southern inhabited land – Pelee Island. Bike the island, hit the winery…

Posted on DMBfanWaterlooVerified Friendly, beautiful, and relaxing We had such a great stay at the Wandering Dog Inn in August 2025. The room and amenities were wonderful, but the owners, Kevin and Cathy, truly made our stay unforgettable. Kevin is around in the evenings to help with anything that comes up, light the campfire, and have a beer with. Cathy opens in the mornings with an amazing breakfast spread of pastries, eggs, toast and waffles, cereal, fresh juice, tea and coffee, fresh fruit, etc. They are both friendly and knowledgeable about the island. They were so helpful and offered to open up the breakfast a few minutes early on our departure day so we could grab a bite to eat and still depart to get to the ferry terminal in time. Our King Suite was spotless. It was large and well lit, and the bed was super comfortable. The bathroom was very nice, with fresh towels, soap and shampoo, etc. The air conditioning worked great even in stifling humidity. The Inn is just a walkable minute or less from the beach. The grounds of the Inn include Muskoka chairs around the fire pit, a screened-in sitting area with more chairs, and several picnic tables. You can drive to the restaurants and stores on the west side of the island for more activities. Bring bug spray! They tell you several times on their website that there is no wifi and cell service is unreliable, so be prepared. We could get some signal (Rogers) outside of our room, but no signal within our room. Without question, the Wandering Dog Inn is the best place to stay on Pelee Island. We can't recommend the inn enough!Posted on Catherine VVerified The perfect place for some relaxation time! We thoroughly loved our stay at The Wandering Dog! The room was very clean, comfortable and quiet and breakfast was amazing every morning. The screened in porch with the hammock was perfect for relaxing. The hosts were very attentive and went out of their way to ensure a great stay. They were out drying off chairs after it had rained, gave us tons of information on what to do around the island and even had the BBQ warmed up for us when we were ready to cook. We will definitely be back!Posted on Mimi MVerified Comfy, homey and so friendly! We stayed at this lovely inn over Canada Day holiday and cannot say enough about how much we enjoyed our time! Cathy and Kevin are so friendly and welcoming and always had a minute to share helpful tips and advice. The room was cosy and so quiet and dark (fantastic change from the city). The breakfast is scrumptious! Would recommend and would happily go back. Thank you Cathy and Kevin!Posted on Fearless30369774743Verified Lovely Place to Stay on Pelee Island This is a perfect place to enjoy a stay on the island, although you will need a way to get there from the ferry. Kevin and Kathy are wonderful hosts. The self serve breakfast was delicious and varied each day. There is a fridge with a freezer with ice in the common area for guests to use. Although there is really limited internet here and on the island (it is better at the ferry terminal) area and no TV in our room, it was wonderful to detach for a few days. We stayed upstairs in a well appointed, clean room with an ensuite.Posted on Tracey KVerified Wonderful place to stay This is such a sweet place to stay. Cathy and Kevin are very welcoming and down to earth. Our King suite was very clean, comfortable, and spacious. Breakfast each morning was delicious. The vibe and ambiance did not disappoint....we were very relaxed. We highly recommend this gem!Posted on Judy RVerified Fortunate Find!! Visiting Pelee Island had been on our bucket list for a long time and we finally made it. It was totally by chance that we ended up at the Wandering Dog and it couldn’t have been a more “perfect” place. Kathy and Kevin are the ultimate hosts, welcoming you and making you feel like old friends on a visit. Your day begins with Kathy’s fabulous breakfast at the main house and ends with Kevin’s campfire. It’s a charming place to kick back, relax, and experience life on island time. We feel so very fortunate to have found the Wandering Dog!Posted on Alf GVerified Relaxing Mini Vacation at The Wandering Dog Inn The wife & I wanted a quiet, relaxing, get away for a mini vacation. Pelee island and The Wandering Dog Inn sounded like the place to be. We were not disappointed. No TV, No WIFI and never even used our mobile phone. The Queen suite was perfect, it had 4 windows, was spacious, very clean and the decor made it all very comfortable and relaxing. Inn is well kept inside and out and is a quiet relaxing place to be. Kathy & Kevin are super hostess/hosts very keen to make sure you are comfortable, and very helpful on the history and things to see & do on the island during your stay. The delicious Continental Breakfast on the screen in porch, was way beyond our expectations and varied every morning. There was campfire to enjoy every night if you wish to join in with the other guests. For us this was perfect, had a great place to stay, swam in Lake Erie on sand beaches, hiked trails, rented bikes for exploring, did some Geocaching and just forgot about everything else. Even the ferry trip out sand back was relaxing. (larger boat to the island and smaller boat back). We highly recommend The Wandering Dog Inn. You will not be disappointed.Posted on Alice HVerified Island Life at Its Best My husband and I just got home from a trip to Pelee Island. We stayed at the Wandering Dog Inn. It was one of the highlights of our trip. From early morning breakfast lovingly prepared by Kathy that started our day on the right foot, to evenings around the fire pit with Kevin regaling stories about island life, it was amazing. We stayed in the Inn itself in an upstairs ensuite that was spacious and comfortable. (4 windows that opened up so you could hear the waves). No internet or tv but that was also one of the blessings of leaving the city behind. If you love getting back to a simpler time, you will love the Wandering Dog, Location is away from the crowd by the Ferry Dock with easy access to all the bike trails and a beautiful beach.Posted on CHRIS EVerified "Summertime & the living is easy at the Wandering Dog Inn" My wife & I had the pleasure of staying at the beautiful Wandering Dog Inn this past July. We stayed in a lovely & well appointed King Suite that featured an open air screened in porch that was perfect for sitting & enjoying our coffee while listening to the amazing bird chorus each morning. Cathy & Kevin Miller are super welcoming & accommodating hosts who enhance your stay by providing a delicious Continental + breakfast each morning & a roaring campfire each evening. Be sure to ask for a view of the beautiful photo album that serves as a tribute to the late & great Fred " The Wandering Dog ". We highly recommend staying at the Wandering Dog Inn. It's a lovely spot to sit back, relax & enjoy a peaceful tranquil visit. Thanks Cathy & Kevin. C & L, Uxbridge , OntarioPosted on wlmomVerified Wonderful surprise! My husband and I stayed in a queen suite for two nights. Well appointed, large room, very clean, no TV was actually really nice. Great selection of games we could borrow so we spent most of the night playing scrabble and checkers on the screened in porch. Short 5 minute walk to the public beach was a nice surprise - calm, warm water and a sandy beach with a total of 3 rocks - that’s all we found. Kevin was the king of the fire pit at night, Cathy put out a breakfast that lacked absolutely nothing. Coffee was strong and hot. Loved the pretty tablecloths on the tables. If you bring your car, park it and rent/bring bikes - getting around is easier by bike (or golf cart) than car, especially if you have an SUV or truck. This trip was just to see what the island was about. We were able to disconnect and just chill - we’ll be back and stay for more than two night, spend the mornings enjoying coffee and Cathy’s breakfast spread before heading out for a bike ride and beach!

We had a delightful 2 night stay at the Inn in the King Suite. The Inn and the owners are wonderful. A real oasis and retreat getaway from the pace... read more of life on the main land. Our suite was so spacious and it was a comfy bed. We loved that we had our own screened porch with hammock and sitting area. The breakfasts each morning were delicious and filling and so much selection. Coffee a plenty and a quaint eating area. We had so many interesting conversations with the owners about life on the island. We took advantage of the no WiFi and hit and miss cellular coverage on this corner of the island by slowing down and getting a book out and playing a nightly game of Scrabble. We rented Ebikes over by the ferry at The Pelee Shop for a full day and had a blast zooming and giggling around the island. The nicest beach is right near the Inn across from the campground. The nicest rock collecting rock beach is also right near the Inn at the end of Stone Rd. Next time we will definitely bring some picnic and BBQ food to put in the mini fridge and make use of the charcoal BBQ that each suite has. And we would make smores by the fire. This is the best place to stay on the island. For lunches and dinners we recommend Stone House, Westview Tavern and the Shack food truck by Scudder Marina. We had repeat meals at these places. We would not recommend Dog and Goat restaurant. Overall, our time on the island and at the Inn were just what we needed. A getaway!

My wife and I stayed for a couple nights and thoroughly enjoyed our visit. The property is well maintained, our room was comfortable, brekky was delicious and the hosts Cathy... read more and Kevin are second to none. They do not sugarcoat anything. We had no TV, we had barely any internet (no wifi) and our room's bathroom was not attached (though it was still private). But the peace, a bottle of wine by the fire under the stars, the company, and the vibe more than make up for it. We'll definitely be back.

The owners here are evil. I booked and paid for a room 6 months in advance for my wife, myself and baby. Once I got there, they wouldn't provide a... read more room even though I already paid for it because I had a child...who was an angel I should mention. The website said family friendly. False advertising. We were stuck on Pelee Island with nowhere to go. Everything else was booked and there were no more ferries back to the mainland. The owners understood this and they didn't care. This completely ruined my plans on the island and made everything a disaster. We ended up having to sleep in our car. If we didn't bring one, we would have been homeless for the night with a baby. The owner didn't care at all that he was sending away a baby with nowhere to sleep in the cold.
